Viking Football

Will Johnson carried the ball 16 times for 74 yards and two rushing touchdowns; caught a 61 yard touchdown pass; and had an 82 yard kick-off return for his fourth score of the night and the Vikings cruised to a 60–20 Mountain Valley Conference win over the Lapine Hawks Friday night at Hans Petersen field. Micah Blankenship had 111 yards on 13 carries including three touchdown scampers, the longest for 17 yards. He also connected with Dane Muller for a 17 yard touchdown pass. Max Reynolds had amassed over 100 yards rushing in the first half, including a 61 yard touchdown run of his own. He wound up with 128 yards on nine carries for the night. The Viking defense had another outstanding night, sacking the Hawks’ quarterback four times and recording two other tackles for loss.  Siuslaw will be on the road Friday night for the second league game of the season; against the Harrisburg Eagles.

Mapleton Volleyball

On Friday the Mapleton sailors volleyball split a pair of matches with Jewel.  The sailors won the first match in 5 sets, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20, 21-25, and 16-14.  Junior Morgan Milbrett had 7 aces and 4 kills and sophomore Averie Walker contributed 3 aces and 7 kills , freshman Lucie Burruss also had 7 aces and 2 kills.

In the second match the Sailors lost in four sets 27-25, 19-25, 22-25, and 16-25. Averie walker had 5 aces and 8 kills and 1 block and junior Morgan Milbrett had 7 aces and 2 kills in the loss.

College Football

The Ducks and Beavers were on the grid iron on Saturday and both teams garnered a win.  The Beavers defeated San Diego State 26-9 in front of the home crowd.  The Ducks demolished Hawaii 55-10.  Both teams will begin their Pac-12 competitions this weekend with the beavers traveling to Pullman Washington to face the Cougars and the Ducks will host the 3-0 Buffaloes led by head coach Deion Sanders.
