Hazardous Waste Roundup

This Friday and Saturday the City of Florence will partner with Lane County to help residents dispose of hazardous items that may be in their household. Residents and businesses in the Florence area will have the opportunity to safely get rid of items that otherwise would not be able to be taken to the trash.  From noon until 5pm tomorrow and 8am until 2pm on Saturday the Florence Transfer site on Rhododendron Drive will accept arts and crafts products, car care products, cleaners, lawn and garden chemicals, paints and solvents along with fluorescent tubes and other household hazardous waste.  They will not be able to accept materials like asbestos, infectious waste, electronics, pressurized cylinders, radioactive waste, and empty containers and drums.   Households are limited to 35 gallons of waste.

Share Your Nativity Scene

It’s still October, but already people are preparing for the Christmas season. One annual event is reaching out to people who may have a Nativity Scene they would like to share with the community during the annual Florence Nativity Festival.  Sherry Harvey says sometimes it seems as if no two are alike.

“Very unusual ones made of all kinds of things, you know, metals, glasses and everything.  Sometimes folks would like to share that.  We would love to have any size, any type of Nativity that people would like to share.”

Don’t be concerned about not being able to decorate your own home.  The festival will be over in plenty of time for you to display it.

“It’s the three days on the weekend, the first week of December, the first, second and third.  So they’ll have their Nativities back.”

If you have a nativity you would like to display during the festival, Harvey says call Vickie Kennedy at 541-997-7404.
