Vikings Make Playoffs

Siuslaw advances to the first round of the OSAA football playoffs with a convincing victory over Pleasant Hill. Viking football advances to the first round of the 3A playoffs following a 51–7 victory at home Friday night over the Billies of Pleasant Hill. Max Reynolds carried the ball 16 times for 154 yards. He had three touchdowns, including a 38 yard fourth down conversion run for the score.  Will Johnson rushed for one touchdown and caught a 38 yard pass from Micah Blankenship for his second score. Blankenship also connected with Tate Bottensek for a 2 yard touchdown pass. The Vikings ended up being the 14th seed in the 16 team playoff bracket. They will travel to Dayton Friday night where they will take on the number three ranked Pirates.

Viking Soccer

The Siuslaw Viking soccer team had their first playoff appearance on Saturday against Dayton.  The Vikings could not hold off the Pirates and succumbed to a 5-2 loss.

College Football

The Oregon State Beavers suffered their second loss of the season in the desert on Saturday.  The wildcats scored two fourth quarter touchdowns and the Beavers scored two with one coming with just 1:38 left in the game, but time was against them falling 27-24.

The Oregon Ducks on Saturday had to be wondering why the #13 ranked Utah Utes didn’t show up.  The Ducks seemingly scored at will holding the Utes to just 2 field goals.  Duck coach Dan Lanning pulled QB Bo Nix in the fourth quarter with the Ducks holding a comfortable 35-6 lead which would also be the final score.  The win keeps the conversation alive for the Ducks to be included in the College Football Playoffs.  The Ducks moved to #6 in yesterday’s AP football rankings, but that does not insure a CFP birth.  Those rankings will come out tomorrow.
