Light Up A Life

The annual Light Up a Life celebration is just over a week away.  Communities around the world take a day each year around the holiday season to remember those who have passed.  Peace Harbor Hospice has chosen Saturday December 9th to be that date.  Liz Atkinson an RN and administrator with Peace Harbor says after several years of virtual events due to COVID-19 they are happy to bring it back to the FEC.  It will be the 28th  celebration.

“We have several different speakers, speaking to remembering people, gratitude for them being in their lives.  We honor vets with taps, this year we have a high schooler playing it on his trumpet.”

Deb Suggs is a nurse practitioner that works with Hospice and says it is a special time of remembrance for families of loved ones.  They will honor some with stars on a lighted tree.

“Anybody who wants a star to memoralize either their loved one or the event itself, we will have stars available that they can get and then we will have pens available in gold, silver and black and they can write the name on the front and the date.”

The event will be at 2pm on the 9th at the FEC.  There will also be resources available for those dealing with the loss of a loved one.

County Clerk Offices to Combine

Lane County will be consolidating all of the County Clerk functions in Eugene under one roof next week.  The Elections Office has been in a separate building at 10th and Lincoln Streets in Eugene.  By next week the County Deeds and Records Office will move out of the basement of the Public Service Building at 8th and Oak and into the Elections building.  Lane County Clerk Dena Dawson says by combining the services of the County Clerk’s Office under one roof it will make operation more efficient.  There will no longer be a need for two separate staffs when conducting elections.  The dedicated parking and the easy-to-find location on tenth is also a plus she says.  One function will remain in the Public Service Building.  Because of space limitations, the public research library for real property records will remain at the 8th street location.

Santa’s Workshop

This Saturday there will be a special Santa’s Workshop at Cross Roads Church in Florence.  The event will feature crafts, face painting, decorating, Christmas games, a coloring contest and hotdogs.  The event will be from 10 until 3 pm for all ages.  It is sponsored by Lofy Construction and the Florence Habitat for Humanity.  They are also looking for donations of hats, gloves, mittens and scarves for Siuslaw youth.  Cross Roads is located at 380 10th street.
