Athlete of the Week; Wrestling/Basketball; Nix Finalist For Heisman; Oregon Needs Double Overtime to Dispose of Cal Poly

Athlete of the Week

The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate Junior Macali Lade as this week’s Athlete of the Week.  Lade took the championship in the 120 pound weight class at the Perry Burlison tournament on Saturday.  She wrestled 5 times each time winning 5-0 in points over her opponents. Defeating Cottage Grove’s Allison Palluck in the Championship round by fall in a 1:45.

Honorable mention goes to Viking basketball standout Andrew Jensen-Norman who averaged 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds for the winter lakes showcase over the weekend.

Wrestling/Basketball

Today the Siuslaw Vikings will be participating in the Sutherlin Wrestling Classic at Sutherlin High School.  Competition begins at 1 pm.  Tomorrow the boys and girls basketball team are back on the court with their home opener.  The Varsity boys will begin at 6pm with a 5:45 pregame on KCST.  The girls will follow at 7:30.

Nix Finalist For Heisman

Oregon Duck QB Bo Nix is officially named a Heisman Trophy finalist.  He joins three other Ducks in the school’s history to be considered.  He hopes to join Marcus Mariota as the only other Duck to be honored with the Trophy.  The trophy will be awarded this Saturday in New York.

Oregon Needs Double Overtime to Dispose of Cal Poly

The Oregon State Beavers are two in a row after defeating Cal Poly last night 70-63.  It did take the Beavers double overtime to do it though.  Michael Rataj led the Beavs with 18 and he also pulled down 10 rebounds.
