King Tides Coming

King Tides occur a few times each year, when two things coincide.  The first is when the moon’s orbit is closest to the earth; the second is when the earth’s orbit is closest to the sun.  Those conditions will be happening twice over the coming weeks, February 8th through 10th, but first January 11th through the 13th.   King tides are when there is a ten foot swing between low tide and high tide.  Those conditions are projected next week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday..  The Oregon King Tides Project has been collecting photos taken on the coast during these high tides for more than a decade.  It’s part of a worldwide initiative to better understand how the rise in sea level impacts coastal communities.   Details on how to take photos and submit them can be found at oregonkingtides.net.

Council Work Session
