Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate freshman Lady Sailor Lucie Burruss as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Lucie led the Sailors in their 50-23 defeat of Crow on Saturday with 28 points, 5 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals bringing the Sailors to a 7-3 record in the Mountain West League.
Honorable Mention
Honorable mention goes to Danin Lacouture Danin, a sophomore wrestler, sporting a 32-4 record on the season with numerous wins under her belt. Coach Neil Wartnik says the grappler has had a sensational season and is highly rated in her weight class.
Prep Hoops
The Siuslaw Viking basketball teams head to Pleasant Hill this evening to face the Billies. The Viking girls will be up first at 6pm with a 5:45 pregame on KCST. The boys will follow at 7:30. The Pleasant Hill boys are 7-1 in league play and the Vikings will have to get past them if they want to see the post season.
The 18-2 Mapleton Sailors are at home this evening against McKenzie. McKenzie has struggled this season with a 2-16 record. The boys will play first at 5:30. The Mapleton girls will also face a struggling McKenzie team at 2-16.
