Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate freshman Mapleton Basketball player Roenin Barrows as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Barrows has had a phenomenal year on the court and led the team in scoring on Saturday against the Crow Cougars scoring 22 including 4 3-pointers in the final quarter to lead the Sailors to a 50-35 victory.
Honorable Mention
Honorable mention goes to senior wrestler Derrick Vanduch who qualified for state this past weekend with a 3rd place finish in the Special District 3A championships. Derrick is 38-16 and has the second most wins on the Siuslaw team.
Siuslaw Basketball
The Siuslaw Viking boy’s basketball team need a win tonight against the Creswell Bulldogs. A win and they are in the playoffs. A loss would mean that the LaPine Hawks would also have to lose in order for the Vikings to still make it. If the Vikings win they will play the Sisters Outlaws again on Thursday at Creswell. If La Pine and the Vikings both lose the Vikings will play Sisters at Sisters. Tonight’s game will be at 6 pm with a 5:45 pregame on KCST. The girls will follow.
Mapleton Sailors
The Mapleton Sailors will play tomorrow against the Mohawk Mustangs with the girls up first at 5:30 the boys play at 7.
