Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior wrestler Jane Lacouture as this week’s Athlete of the week. Jane completed her season with a second place finish in the OSAA State Championships in Portland. She wrestled for the top spot after pinning La Grande’s Kaitlin Brock, the second seed in the tournament.
Honorable mention goes to another second place finisher junior Macali Lade who lost in the final round to Harrisburg’s Paxton Steele.
Baseball Starts
The combined Siuslaw Viking Mapleton Sailor baseball team is gearing up for the 2024 season. The team has a new coach at the helm. Derek Wells has been coaching baseball in Florence at different levels for 26 years and is a former Viking baseball player who graduated in 1996. The Vikings will play their first preseason game on March 11th.
