Viking Win in Extra

The Siuslaw Vikings were down to their last strike trailing the Elmira Falcons in the 7th inning when they tied up the ball game last night in a back and forth battle in Elmira.  The game then went to extra innings with the Vikings at bat in the top of the 8th.

Wayne Sharpe makes the call with sophomore Micah Blankenship at the plate.

“Two balls, two strikes, two outs, 9-9 runners at second and third, the pitch, and he hits it, base hit. Into left field.”

The Vikings take the 10-9 lead with Jacob Mann on the mound with two outs.

“Wind up and pitch, and there’s a ball hit to third, backed up well the throw’s a little slow, he’s out. the game’s over the Vikings win it 10-9, what a battle it was against Elmira.”

The Viking softball team generated 9 runs against Elmira but the Falcons piled on 21 runs in the game to defeat Siuslaw.

Track and Field

Viking track and field hosted the Mountain Valley Conference JV meet yesterday.  Junior Charles Nelson took second in the 100 meters and first in the 200 meters.  Ray Brito-xilot took first in the 400 meters and Wesley Nicholls and Dylan Jensen took the top two spots respectively in the 800. Kale Jensen took the 300 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 43.08.  Siuslaw finished first in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Freshman Davian Frazier bested the group in the high jump at 5’8” and junior Justin Allen bested his teammates in the Pole Vault with a 13’4” vault. Long jump and triple jump were won by Will Johnson with Kale Jensen taking the second spot it both. For the girls Corduroy Holbrook took second in the 800 meter. Danin and Jane Lacouture took the top two spots in the shot put with Danin setting a personal record with a toss of 34’10”. The top three discus throws were Vikings in order Danin Lacouture, Madison Carnahan, and Jane Lacouture.  Jane also had a PR throw and a first place finish in the Javelin at 94’4” and sophomore Mia Snider came in second with 86’7”.  Sophomore Keira Johnson took first in the pole vault for the Vikings a 8 feet even.

Ducks and Beavers

In division one baseball the Ducks were shot down by Sacramento State 15-8 and the Beavers Travis Bazzana set the record for most home runs by a Beaver with his 35th dinger and 18th of the season. The Beavers outlasted Portland 11-8.
