Viking Baseball Honors
The Siuslaw Vikings were well-represented on the All-League Baseball teams this season, landing five players with league honors. Catcher Jacob Mann earned First Team All-League recognition, while infielder Max Reynolds also made First Team — his third straight year receiving the honor. Joel Sissel was named Second Team All-League Utility, with Coleman Weidman earning Second Team Outfielder. Michael Fitzsimmons received Honorable Mention as an infielder. With two freshmen among the honorees, coaches say the future looks bright for Siuslaw baseball.
Track and Field Championships
Today marks day one of the two day Special District 3A Track and field Championships. Senior Clayton Wilson will be looking to expand on his running dominance, senior’s Michael Felkins, Ray Brito-xilot and Wesley Nichols and Will Johnson will compete on the 4×100 and Wilson, Kale Jensen, Nichols and Brito-Xilot will have the 4×400. Jensen and Johnson will compete in field events along with Max Reynolds. For the girls its senior Maya Wells, Addison and Macy McNeill, Auvi King and Kamorah Lake leading the team with sophomore Aidell Cadet looking to improve on her season. Competition starts at 11am
Duck Tournament Play
The Oregon Ducks begin their Big Ten Tournament run tonight, facing Michigan State in the opening round. It’s been a dominant debut season for Oregon, who claimed the regular-season title in their first year in the conference. Head coach Mark Wasikowski was named Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading the Ducks to a 41-13 record. Oregon also set a new program record with 107 home runs. Ten Ducks earned all-conference honors, and slugger Mason Neville leads the nation in home runs heading into tournament play.
Beaver Shortstop Named as Award Semifinalist
Oregon State junior Aiva Arquette has been named one of 30 semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, honoring the nation’s top shortstop. The award, presented by the College Baseball Hall of Fame, recognizes defensive excellence and offensive impact. Arquette leads the Beavers with a .348 batting average, 17 home runs, and 60 RBIs. He’s started all 54 games at shortstop, committing just four errors for a .980 fielding percentage. He’s looking to become the second Beaver to win the award, following Cadyn Grenier in 2018. Finalists will be announced June 4.
