FURA Grants Limited Extension For Hotel Developer

Matt Braun with Braun Hospitality says plans to bring a Wyndham Microtel to Quince Street in Florence are nearing a key milestone. Braun told the Florence Urban Renewal Agency this week that while final financing steps are still in progress, the project has line of sight to groundbreaking. Braun confirmed $3.4 million in private equity has been committed, and the group has secured a term sheet and letter of interest from Celtic Bank and their SBA 504 loan partner. A $15,000 deposit has been made, and all major documentation is under review, including 65 underwriting documents detailing the hotel’s business model, contracts, and financials. An appraisal, considered the biggest risk to the loan, is due imminently. Braun says they’ve also selected a contractor, Deacon Construction, and have submitted for a construction permit, which is nearly ready for issuance. The original closing was targeted for late July, but Braun is now requesting an 84-day extension to August 29 to ensure all federal and lender requirements are met. The construction window is still expected to be 13 to 14 months once ground is broken. Braun also said it was not until 5 months ago that they had considered an SBA loan, and that in part has grown to encompass more paperwork and approvals and guarantees under the Trump Administration. He remains optimistic and says investor interest continues to grow. The FURA Board voted 6-1 to approve the extension request.

Siuslaw Student Wins Art Contest

A Siuslaw High School student’s artwork is heading to the U.S. Capitol. Teakki Rain Legg’s oil painting, Shining Light, which captures the beauty of the Oregon Coast, won this year’s Congressional Art Competition for Oregon’s 4th District. The 16- Alliance and serves on its board, will travel to Washington, D.C. for a special recognition ceremony. Congressman Val Hoyle praised Teakki’s work and community contributions, saying the painting reflects the best of the district.

Gas Prices on the Rise

Gas prices are on the rise again in Florence, jumping about 10 cents in the past few days. As of May 29, regular gasoline is averaging around $3.88 per gallon locally—still below Oregon’s statewide average of $4.02, according to AAA. The increase mirrors a broader trend driven by supply disruptions following a refinery fire in California, along with heightened demand from Memorial Day travel. While Florence drivers are feeling the pinch, the area continues to see slightly lower prices compared to other parts of the state.
