Track and Field Championships Begin Today
The OSAA 3A State Track and Field Championships kick off today at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus, with Siuslaw High School well represented. Thirteen Viking boys and six girls are competing in a variety of events over the two-day meet. Returning state qualifiers like Jacob Mann and Max Reynolds are expected to make strong showings, alongside a talented group of underclassmen. The championships run through Saturday, showcasing Oregon’s top high school athletes in one of the country’s most iconic track venues.
Mapleton Falls to Scio
The Mapleton/Elmira softball team was eliminated from the state playoffs yesterday falling to the top seeded Scio High School 15-2 in a shortened 5 inning game. Scio’s Myleigh Cooper was 4-4 with three home runs and 8 rbis in the game.
Dodson Hall of Fame Induction
Longtime Siuslaw football coach Tim Dodson is being inducted into the Siuslaw High School Hall of Fame. Dodson took over the Viking program in 1996 following the legendary Len Lutero and went on to build a legacy of his own—winning a state title in 2006, finishing runner-up in 2011, and guiding his teams to 16 playoff appearances. Known as a motivator, mentor, and father figure to many players, Dodson emphasized character as much as competition. The induction ceremony will take place August 22 at the Siuslaw High School gym.
