Early Burn Ban To Go in Place
Due to dry conditions, warmer-than-normal temperatures, and increasing fire danger, the Lane Fire Defense Board, Oregon Department of Forestry, and Lane Regional Air Protection Agency have declared an early end to the outdoor burning season in Lane County. Originally set to close June 15, the season will now end Friday, June 6th, 2025. That makes June 6th the final day for outdoor burning, with fire season officially beginning June 7th. Officials urge residents to avoid burning if possible, and if you must burn, follow all regulations and keep water nearby.
Gas Prices
Gas prices are drifting lower to start June, even as crude oil prices rise amid escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The national average for regular gas dropped four cents this week to $3.14 a gallon, while Oregon’s average slipped three cents to $3.99. In Florence, the average is also $3.89. Marie Dodds with AAA says oil prices are being pushed higher by global tensions and OPEC+’s plan to boost production in July, though markets had already priced that in. Despite demand rising, pump prices remain relatively steady thanks to oil staying under $65 a barrel.
PeaceHealth Launches New Program
PeaceHealth has launched a new program aimed at helping patients manage chronic health conditions like diabetes, COPD, heart failure, and depression. Called PeaceHealth Flourish, the program offers one-on-one support through primary care services. Patients work with a dedicated team to set achievable health goals and create a personalized plan, with support lasting up to a year. Most costs are covered by Medicare and insurance, and financial assistance is available for those in need. PeaceHealth says Flourish is designed to make self-care more manageable and effective.
Free Fishing Weekend
Oregon’s Free Fishing Weekend is coming up Saturday and Sunday, June 7th and 8th. On those days, everyone—residents and nonresidents—can fish, clam, and crab for free with no license or tags required. Oregon State Parks will also offer free parking and camping on June 7th. All other regulations still apply, including size limits and closures. Crabbing is open coastwide, but razor clamming is only open from Cascade Head to the Washington border. In Florence, a Free Fishing event to teach prospective anglers how to rig up bait, cast, land and clean your catch will be held at Lake Cleawox. Visit MyODFW.com for updates and safety info.
