Viking Basketball

The Siuslaw varsity Vikings girls came up just short Friday, falling to Glide 27-24. Siuslaw trailed by 12 points at 25-13, but rallied late, outscoring Glide 12-6 in the fourth quarter to make it a one-possession game. Pearl Jensen led the Vikings with nine points. Ryleigh Panschow pulled down 11 rebounds as Siuslaw controlled the boards with 43 rebounds overall. Avey Hulet led the defensive effort with six steals in the loss.

The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team rolled past Glide Friday, winning 56-27 and evening their Far West League record at 2-2. Siuslaw jumped out to a fast start, scoring the first 15 points and building a 36-11 halftime lead. The Vikings are now 11-9 overall and will wrap up the first half of league play Tuesday on the road at Douglas.

Viking Wrestling

Siuslaw senior Danin Lacouture went 4-0 to win the 140-pound title at the Harrisburg All-Girls Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, improving to 28-3 on the season. Sophomore Molly Mills finished 2-2 at 125 pounds. On the boys side, Yair Brito Xilot, Jacob Mann, and Gage Mills each won three matches at the Special District 2-3A Duals. Both teams have district championships coming up later this month.

College Hoops

Oregon stayed short-handed and fell to Iowa Sunday night at Matthew Knight Arena, 84-66. The Ducks were outscored in the paint and shot 24 percent from three in the loss. Oregon State erased a 10-point deficit in the final two minutes to force overtime, then beat San Diego 78-76 on the road. The win capped a weekend road sweep for the Beavers.

In college women’s basketball the Oregon Ducks squeaked by 16th ranked Maryland on Saturday 68-61 and the OSU Beavers defeated San Francisco 75-53.
