Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club and Coast Radio Sports congratulate junior Mapleton basketball player Abbi Galvan-Mendez as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Last week Abbi was the catalyst in their win against St. Paul in the first round of the playoffs scoring a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Coach Clemmons says she is the most improved player on the team. A Great leader, teammate and friend.
Honorable Mention goes to Viking senior Danin Lacouture who battled to a second place finish in State Championship wrestling finishing her Siuslaw career with a 39-6 record this season.
Vikings Honored
Three Siuslaw Vikings have earned Far West League boys basketball all-league honors. Sophomore Jericho Lake and senior Micah Blankenship were both named first-team all-league, while senior Asher Borgnino earned second-team recognition. Lake averaged 17.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in league play. Blankenship averaged 13.3 points, 4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals. Borgnino added 9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Head coach Dylan Perry noted that league coaches nominate their own players, but cannot vote for them, with final selections decided by the other coaches in the Far West League. Siuslaw’s other starters this season were seniors Owen Burtt and Tom Morgan.
