Track and Field

Siuslaw track and field opened the season strong at the Icebreaker meet at Hans Petersen Field, sweeping both team titles. Senior Will Johnson set a school record in the triple jump at 46 feet, 4 inches and won the pole vault at 13-4, while junior Aidell Cadet broke the girls record with a jump of 37-5-and-a-half and also won the 100 hurdles in 16.80 seconds. Thomas Morgan took the 100 in 11 seconds flat. Other boys winners included Henry Stone in the 1,500 at 4:18.40 and Caleb Gray in the javelin at 169-7. On the girls side, Willa Harkelrode won the 200 in 28.40, Danin Lacouture took the shot put at 35-7, and Maren Hughes cleared 8-4 to win the pole vault.

Baseball

Sweet Home collected 10 hits and defeated Siuslaw 7-4 in nonleague baseball Thursday. The Vikings led 3-0 early and were tied at 4 after three innings before the Huskies pulled away. Colin Barnett led Siuslaw at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Michael Fitzsimmons added a double. Siuslaw, now 1-1, travels to Marshfield Monday.

Softball

Siuslaw softball fell to Sweet Home 17-2 in five innings Thursday, dropping to 0-2 on the season. The Vikings struggled defensively, allowing 17 runs with only two earned.

Golf

Siuslaw boys golf opened the season at the Siuslaw Invitational at Sandpines, finishing 13th as a team. Micah Blankenship led the Vikings with an 86, including two birdies. Mason Wright added a 91, followed by Camden Linton at 94. Newberg won the 17-team event with a 308, followed by Thurston and South Eugene.

College Baseball

This weekend the Ducks will have a 3-game series against Northwestern.  The Beavers will be on the air on KCFM against UC Irvine.  game time this evening at 5:30.

Women’s Basketball

The Oregon State women are done in tournament action after losing a close match against Wisconsin last night 62-58.  the Lady Ducks are on the court today against  Virginia Tech in the NCAA tournament.
