Siuslaw Varsity Baseball picked up a walk-off win Tuesday, edging Marshfield 4-3 in extra innings. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the eighth when an error brought home the winning run. Micah Blankenship struck out 12 over six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Siuslaw scored early on a Jacob Mann walk, then tied it again in the seventh on an RBI single from Coleman Weidman. Mann earned the win in relief, while DeSantis led the Vikings with two hits at the plate.
Track and Field
Natalie Stevens showed her prowess in track and field again yesterday as she broke the Mapleton school record in the 3000 meter. with a time of 11:18.56. Coach Jessica Krull says she believes that Stevens also set the meet record as well.
Siuslaw Track and Field delivered varsity-level performances Tuesday at Hans Petersen Field, despite the event being listed as a 3A junior varsity meet. The Vikings swept both the boys and girls team titles in a five-school competition. On the boys side, Thomas Morgan won the 100 meters with a personal-best 11.09 seconds, while Jacob Mann took first in the shot put. Davian Frazier swept the hurdles with two personal bests, and Torelan DeSantis won the pole vault. On the girl’s side, Danin Lacouture won both the shot put and discus with season-best marks. Clover Holbrook took first in the 800, and Ezra Haberly claimed the javelin.
