Play Area Damage
A play structure at Miller Park in Florence has been temporarily closed due to vandalism. According to the City of Florence, damage to the structure—designed for younger children—has made it unsafe for public use. Public Works crews are working to replace the damaged components. Florence Police Lieutenant Len Larson says the damage involved a piece being broken off a platform. No suspect information has been reported, but officers have been notified and will increase patrols in the area. Officials are asking the public to report any suspicious activity at city parks by calling the Florence Police non-emergency line at 541-997-3515.
Hospital Administrator Placed on Leave
PeaceHealth has placed Dr. Jim McGovern, Chief Hospital Executive for its Oregon network, on administrative leave pending an internal review. In a statement, PeaceHealth confirmed the action but has not publicly detailed the specific reasons for the leave, citing the ongoing nature of the review process. Dr. McGovern has been a central figure in PeaceHealth’s Oregon operations, which include RiverBend Medical Center in Springfield and Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence. Recent reporting from regional media outlets has referenced concerns raised by some members of the medical staff, including a previously reported vote of no confidence earlier this year. However, PeaceHealth has not independently confirmed those details as part of its official statement. The organization says operations will continue as normal during the review, and no timeline has been given for when a final decision may be made. PeaceHealth has indicated it will provide further updates if and when appropriate.
