Special District Championships

The Special District 3A Track and Field Championships get underway tomorrow and Friday at Sutherlin High School, with Siuslaw sending a strong contingent—20 boys and 19 girls—to compete. On the boys’ side, senior Will Johnson is among the top contenders in the triple jump after setting a new school record at 47 feet, 2 inches. Junior Aidell Cadet is expected to challenge in multiple events, including the hurdles and high jump. In the throws, seniors Jacob Mann and Danin Lacouture look to contend for titles in both the discus and shot put. Siuslaw also brings depth across the roster, with strong performances this season in distance events, relays, and field competitions. The District meet runs through Friday, with top finishers advancing to the state championships.

Mapleton High School will also be represented at this week’s district meet, sending 5 boys and 5 girls to the Special District 1A Championships at McKenzie High School Friday. Senior Natalie Stevens leads the Sailors, posting some of the top times this season in the 3000 meters and entering as a strong contender in the distance events. Competition is set for Friday, with top finishers moving on to the state championships.
