Oregon Baseball
Oregon baseball is headed back to the NCAA Super Regionals after sweeping through regional play. The Ducks will face Texas in a best-of-three series beginning Saturday in Austin. Oregon sophomore pitcher Will Sanford says he thrives in big-game environments and is looking forward to the challenge. Head Coach Mark Wasikowski says his team has continued to grow throughout the season and believes the Ducks haven’t yet reached their peak. Texas enters the series as one of the nation’s top teams, boasting one of college baseball’s best pitching staffs. Oregon is seeking its first trip to the College World Series since returning to NCAA competition.
Ems
The Eugene Emeralds are 9 games in front in the Northwest League after losing last night to the Everett Aquasox. Eugene dropped the series opener in Everett, falling 8-5 to the AquaSox. The Ems built an early 4-1 lead, highlighted by a Dakota Jordan two-run homer in the third. But Everett answered with seven runs across the third and fourth, including a go-ahead three-run shot from Brandon Eike. Eugene added one in the fifth on an RBI single from Jhonny Level, who finished with a two-hit debut. The Emeralds still hold a nine-game Northwest League lead with 14 games left in the first half.
