Woman Dies After Fall at Devils Punchbowl

A tragic accident at Devils Punchbowl State Park has claimed the life of a woman who fell into the rocky basin Wednesday afternoon. Emergency crews from the Depoe Bay Fire District responded shortly before noon and used rope rescue techniques to reach the injured woman below. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter later hoisted her from the area and transported her to a Willamette Valley trauma center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Fire officials are urging visitors to exercise caution near coastal overlooks, remain behind safety barriers, and stay out of restricted areas along Oregon’s rugged shoreline.

Recycling Notification Requirement

Landlords and property managers of multi-family housing in Florence are being reminded of state and local requirements to provide recycling opportunities and educational materials to tenants. City officials say Oregon law and Florence City Code require periodic information on proper recycling practices. Resources, including flyers and door hanger graphics, are available through the City of Florence Planning Department. The city also highlights additional environmental resources, including Oregon E-Cycles, Lane County recycling programs, and information on the safe handling and disposal of asbestos. Questions can be directed to the Planning Department at 541-997-8237.

Free Fishing Weekend

Oregonians and visitors can enjoy Free Fishing Weekend on June 6 and 7, when no fishing licenses, tags, or endorsements are required statewide. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is also hosting a free fishing event at Cleawox Lake in Florence on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where staff and volunteers will provide equipment and instruction for beginning anglers. While fishing is free, all bag limits, size restrictions, and other regulations remain in effect. Officials also remind crabbers and clammers to check current shellfish safety advisories before heading to the coast, as conditions can change quickly.
