Rankin Named Head Coach
Siuslaw High School has named longtime assistant Dan Rankin as head baseball coach. Athletic director Max Perry says Rankin brings continuity and more than 20 years of local experience. Rankin led the Vikings to a 13-12 finish after taking over in April. Siuslaw returns key all-league underclassmen as the Far West League expands to 8 teams next season.
Ems Drop Wild One
Eugene dropped a wild one to Spokane 10-9, evening the series at a game apiece. The Emeralds, now 40-19 after clinching the first half, saw 16 of the 19 runs scored with two outs and 7 lead changes. Jakob Christian and Zander Darby helped answer an early Spokane homer, and Christian later delivered a go-ahead grand slam in the 7th. But Spokane rallied again in the 8th, taking the lead for good on an RBI single from Tommy Hopfe. The Ems put two on in the 9th but couldn’t finish the comeback, falling 10-9.
