TLT Reserves To Be Untouched
Lane County Commissioners voted 4-1 Tuesday to preserve transient lodging tax reserves, opting instead to use general fund reserves following public testimony from tourism and business leaders, including the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce. Commissioner Heather Buch cast the lone dissenting vote. Advocates said the decision protects funding intended for tourism promotion and economic development, though commissioners did not address a proposed 1 percent ongoing allocation, leaving that issue unresolved. Officials reported strong public engagement, with more than 40 written comments submitted and dozens attending or testifying in person, underscoring the broad community interest in how the funds are used.
Expo for Seniors
The Healthy Aging–Healthy Living Senior and Lifestyle Expo will take place tomorrow at the Florence Events Center from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The free event is designed to connect the community with resources that support healthy, independent, and active living, with a focus on older adults, caregivers, and families. Exhibitors will offer information on healthcare services, wellness programs, housing and financial resources, safety, and volunteer opportunities. The expo will also include educational presentations and opportunities to speak with local professionals. Free ice cream will be available, and Coast Radio will broadcast live in the morning.
Weather Affecting Fishing
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says drought and heat are already impacting summer fishing across the state, with low, warm water expected to stress cold‑water species like trout and salmon. Anglers are advised that regulations could change and access may be limited in some areas, though warmwater fish like bass and crappie could provide good opportunities this season. On the coast, minus morning tides are on the way, offering favorable conditions for clamming and tide pooling. ODFW is also warning about invasive mussels after recent detections, and says some fish stocking plans are being adjusted as waters become too warm or shallow.
