Interim CMO Announced for PeaceHealth

PeaceHealth has named Dr. John Tynes as interim Chief Medical Officer for the Oregon Region, with his first day set for July 23. Tynes most recently served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver and previously held CMO positions in Texas and Colorado. Earlier in his career, he practiced OB-GYN medicine in Crescent City and Brookings, frequently referring patients to Sacred Heart facilities. He will succeed Dr. Heather McArthur, who previously served as Chief Medical Officer at Peace Harbor Medical Center before moving into the regional role and is returning to full-time clinical care in August. PeaceHealth says Tynes will help maintain continuity while a permanent regional CMO is recruited.

Waste Disposal Rates to Increase

Lane County Commissioners have voted to close a $3 million budget gap in the county’s Waste Management Division through higher fees, reduced hours at some transfer sites, and the closure of the Walton Transfer Site. Beginning August 10th, transfer site fees will increase 5 percent, with the minimum charge rising from $15 to $25. The Walton site will permanently close, while sites in Creswell and Veneta will operate fewer days each week. County officials say the changes are needed as revenue from waste disposal fees has declined in recent years.

C.R.O.W. Looking for Sponsors

C.R.O.W. is looking for community sponsors for its 2026 “Scary Tales” Haunted Maze at the Florence Events Center. The non-profit youth theatre group hopes to raise at least $5,500 to help cover venue rental, costumes, special effects, props, and a giant dragon. Since launching in 2015, the Haunted Maze has grown to attract more than 1,000 visitors each season and has twice been voted Oregon’s number one haunted attraction. This year’s maze runs October 28th through 31st and will feature a new sensory-friendly walkthrough and less-scary hours. Proceeds support C.R.O.W.’s year-round youth arts programs.
