Women and Children’s Health Fair
A women’s health event planned for September 11th at the Florence Events Center will offer local residents an opportunity to connect directly with healthcare providers and community resources. The Women and Children Community Health Fair, organized by PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center, will run from 2 to 4 p.m. and is free to attend. In addition to information booths and wellness resources, the event will feature a forum and question-and-answer session with Peace Harbor OB-GYN physicians. Organizers say the fair is designed to provide education, health information, and access to services that support women and children throughout the community. The event is open to the public.
New Rehab Hospital
PeaceHealth is inviting the public to tour its new Springfield Rehabilitation Hospital before it officially opens next month. Three open house events are scheduled August 20th and 21st at the 67,000-square-foot facility on Game Farm Road. The hospital is the first freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Oregon and includes the region’s first dedicated traumatic brain injury unit. Features include a simulated apartment, vehicle training area, outdoor therapy spaces, and a 3,000-square-foot gym. The hospital will begin admitting patients in September as services transition from Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
Gas Prices
AAA reports gas prices are climbing again across Oregon and the nation. The statewide average for regular gasoline is up five cents this week to $4.72 a gallon, while the national average stands at $4.07. In Florence, drivers are paying about $4.70 a gallon. AAA’s Marie Dodds says crude oil prices above $80 a barrel, tied to the ongoing conflict with Iran and continued disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, are keeping prices elevated. Oregon’s average is now at its highest level for mid-August since 2022.
Beat The Wave Event
The West Lane Emergency Operations Group is inviting residents to get prepared before disaster strikes at the Beat the Wave Disaster Expo, coming to the Florence Events Center on September 12th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event will feature emergency responders, public safety agencies, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and preparedness experts offering information on earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires, winter storms, power outages, and other emergencies. Families can learn how to strengthen emergency plans and preparedness efforts. Free hot dogs will be available from the Rotary Club of Florence while supplies last. The event is supported by Three Rivers Casino Resort.
