Ems Split With Canadians
The Eugene Emeralds salvaged a series split with a 6-5 win over Vancouver Sunday, closing a nine-game homestand at 6-and-3. Zander Darby and Damian Bravo homered as the Ems built a 6-1 lead, then survived a late Canadians rally. Eugene takes a half-game Northwest League lead into the season’s final two weeks.
Soccer Changes to 3A Only
Siuslaw boys soccer opens a new era this week as the Vikings begin play in the newly separated OSAA 3A classification. Siuslaw heads to a jamboree at Marshfield on Thursday before opening league play September 8th at Coquille. The Vikings move from a nine-team mixed 3A-2A-1A league into a seven-team 3A district featuring home-and-away competition. Siuslaw also faces significant roster changes, graduating six seniors, including all-state players Joel Bates and Kale Jensen, and losing several cross country athletes who played soccer last season.
Viking Volleyball Gets Warm-Ups
The Siuslaw Lady Vikings volleyball team opens its 2026 season this week with a preseason jamboree Thursday at Marshfield in Coos Bay, followed by matches Saturday against Elmira and Reedsport. Coach McKenzie Perry says she’s still evaluating lineups and expects to settle on a starting rotation closer to league play. Siuslaw returns five seniors, including co-captains Stella Duman and Charley Johnson, and will compete this fall in an expanded Far West League that adds St. Mary’s, Illinois Valley and Brookings-Harbor. The Vikings have 22 players on the varsity and junior varsity roster this season.
