Car Show Returns For Fall
September will once again bring classic cars to Florence. The popular Rods and Rhodies Car Show disappeared from the September calendar several years ago, but organizer Russ Kroenert says the event is back as the Florence Fall Classic Car Show. The event takes place September 11th and 12th in Old Town Florence. Kroenert says Friday’s activities run from noon to 5 p.m. and are open to the public, with no registration or awards, just an informal gathering for car enthusiasts. Food, music, and displays will be featured throughout the afternoon. On Saturday, participating vehicles will begin lining up on Bay Street at 6 a.m., with the official show running from 9 to 3. Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m., allowing the streets to be cleared and returned to the city by 5 p.m. The event revives a longtime Florence tradition that drew classic car enthusiasts from across the Northwest.
Gas Prices Climb
Drivers in Oregon are paying more at the pump as gas prices continue to climb. According to AAA, the Oregon average for regular gasoline rose six cents this week to $4.77 per gallon, while the national average increased three cents to $4.10. AAA says elevated crude oil prices tied to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are keeping pressure on fuel costs. In Florence, the average price for regular gas is now $4.80 a gallon. AAA says the switch to winter-blend fuel next month could bring modest relief, but significant price drops are unlikely in the near term.
Food Share Fundraiser Friday
Florence Food Share is inviting the community to take part in Florence Feud this Friday, August 28th, at Three Rivers Casino Resort. The live game-show fundraiser, inspired by the popular “Survey Says” format, will feature local teams competing for prizes and bragging rights while raising support for food assistance programs in the Florence area. Doors open at 5 p.m. with a light meal, silent auction, and cash bar, and the competition begins at 6. Tickets are $45 per person or $385 for a table of eight.
