Scam Warning: Mobile Apps
The Oregon Division of Financial Regulation is warning consumers about scams involving mobile payment apps like Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, and PayPal. Officials say scammers may send money by mistake, then ask for it back, only to have the original payment later reversed. Fraudsters are also posing as customer service representatives to steal passwords and verification codes. DFR advises consumers to avoid sending money to people they don’t know, never share account credentials, and verify suspicious transactions directly through the payment app’s official website or customer support.
WLEOG Hosts Beat the Wave
The West Lane Emergency Operations Group is inviting the community to “Beat the Wave” at its annual Disaster Preparedness Expo. The free event is Saturday, September 12th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Florence Events Center. Local agencies and emergency responders will be on hand with demonstrations, hands-on safety tips and information on flood preparedness, wildfire safety, emergency planning, communications and disaster supplies. The family-friendly event also includes activities, giveaways and free hot dogs sponsored by the Rotary Club of Florence. Admission is free.
Do You Need A Business License?
Florence residents who operate a business from their home are being reminded that they may need a Class 3 Home Occupation Business License. The City says home-based businesses must meet standards intended to keep commercial activity compatible with residential neighborhoods. Requirements can affect customer visits, employees, signage, deliveries and other activities at the property. Business owners who are unsure whether they need a home occupation license can contact the City’s Business License Specialist.
