Siuslaw Takes Hard Loss on the Road
The Siuslaw Vikings faced a tough preseason test Saturday in Bend, falling to the state’s top-ranked 3A team, the Vale Vikings. Turnovers and a powerful Vale offense proved to be the difference as Vale built a commanding halftime lead, triggering a running clock for the second half. Siuslaw avoided the shutout with a late fourth-quarter touchdown, but Vale continued to put points on the board throughout the game, rolling to a 57-point performance. The Vikings now sit at 1-1 in preseason play as they prepare for the regular season ahead. with still one more preseason game this week against Newport.

Ducks Edge Out Broncos
Oregon opened its 2026 season with a win, but not without a challenge. The second-ranked Ducks held off an upset bid from Boise State Saturday at Autzen Stadium, earning a 34-27 victory. Quarterback Dante Moore threw for a career-high 378 yards and three touchdowns as Oregon rallied from a 17-7 first-half deficit. The Ducks outgained the Broncos 497 to 274, but penalties and special teams miscues kept Boise State in the game. Oregon never trailed after taking the lead late in the third quarter and begins the season 1-0.
Houston Defeats OSU
Oregon State opened the 2026 season with a 33-20 road loss to 23rd-ranked Houston Saturday. Despite the defeat, true freshman Jesse Legree turned heads in his collegiate debut, hauling in five catches for 136 yards and a touchdown, including a 71-yard reception that set up the Beavers’ first score. Quarterback Braden Atkinson threw for 376 yards and a touchdown in his Oregon State debut, while the Beaver defense forced two turnovers. Houston pulled away late to secure the win.
