Siuslaw returns to Newport Friday night to renew a longtime football rivalry. The Vikings are 1 and 1 on the season and looking to rebound after a loss to Vale, while the Cubs enter the game 0 and 1 following a season-opening defeat to Taft. Senior Night festivities in Newport will include recognition of Siuslaw seniors Caleb and Dylan Gray, who began their varsity careers against the Cubs in 2023. Vikings coach Sam Johnson says Rivalry Week makes this an important game for both teams. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with Coast Radio’s pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 on KCST
Ems Facing Elimination
The Eugene Emeralds are one loss away from elimination after falling to Hillsboro 5-4 in 10 innings Wednesday night in game two of the Northwest League Championship Series. Cam Maldonado’s two-run homer helped Eugene erase an early deficit, and the Ems rallied to tie the game at 4-4 before Hillsboro walked it off in the bottom of the 10th. Eugene returns to PK Park Friday night for game three, needing three straight wins to capture the Northwest League title.
Volleyball and Soccer
Siuslaw volleyball will be at home this evening for a matchup against Douglas. the Trojans are 1-2 to start the season. Siuslaw has struggled early, but have a strong base of players and are looking for a win this evening. competition from Glen Butler court begins at 6 pm. Mapleton Volleyball will be on their home court this evening against Mohawk. boys soccer will also be at home this evening against Douglas with a 4:30 start time.
