Feeling the Pinch at the Pump
Florence drivers are paying an average of about $5.06 a gallon for regular, based on the six Florence stations shown on GasBuddy. That’s slightly below Oregon’s statewide average of $5.12. AAA says Oregon prices climbed another ten cents this week, while the national average jumped 18 cents to $4.33. Diesel has reached record highs, averaging $6.67 in Oregon. AAA says crude oil above $100 a barrel, along with disruptions to Middle East shipping and energy infrastructure, continue to push fuel prices higher—even as the fall switch to cheaper winter-blend gasoline gets underway.
Opioid Clinic Open House
The Florence Treatment Center project is moving closer to construction as Lane County Treatment Center prepares to expand opioid treatment services on the Oregon coast. The organization will host a community open house Wednesday, September 23rd, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the future facility at 4480 Highway 101 in Florence. Community members, local organizations and contractors are invited to tour the site, meet project representatives and learn more about planned construction and services. The project continues to advance through facility design, funding and community engagement.
LRAPA Seeks Comments
Lane County’s air quality agency is asking for public comment on proposed permit changes affecting gas stations and other gasoline dispensing facilities. The changes would require the largest facilities to install enhanced vapor-recovery equipment, while some stations adding new storage tanks would need vapor-balance systems and additional leak testing. The systems capture gasoline vapors during fuel deliveries instead of releasing them into the air; those vapors can contain toxic pollutants including benzene. Comments are due to LRAPA by 5 p.m. October 14th.
