Police Release Name of Crash Suspect
Florence Police have released the name of the driver involved in the August 29th crash that struck the Travelodge motel on Highway 101. Police say 41-year-old Lacy Turley was arrested September 17th and charged with Assault in the Third Degree, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, First Degree Criminal Mischief, and DUII. Investigators say Turley accelerated from the Circle K parking lot, crossed Highway 101, crashed through the Edward Jones building, and continued into a motel room at the Travelodge. A woman inside the room was injured and transported to Peace Harbor Hospital. Turley was later lodged at the Lane County Adult Corrections facility.
Chamber Publishes Candidate Questionaire
The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce has released its 2026 Candidate Questionnaire to help voters learn more about the candidates seeking local office. The nonpartisan resource includes candidates’ views on issues such as economic development, public safety, housing, childcare, tourism, and fiscal responsibility. Chamber officials say responses are published exactly as submitted and were not edited. All candidates were invited to participate. Residents can read the questionnaire online or pick up a printed copy at the Florence Visitor Center ahead of the November election.
SOS Celebrates 40 Years
Siuslaw Outreach Services is celebrating 40 years of serving the Siuslaw region. The nonprofit, led by Executive Director Bob Teter, has provided a wide range of assistance since 1986, including food support, housing assistance, and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence. To mark the milestone, SOS will host an Ice Cream Social and Open House Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Siuslaw Area Resource Center on West 12th Street. Community members are invited to tour the facility and help celebrate four decades of service to local families and individuals in need.
