Vikings Dominate Bulldogs
The Siuslaw Vikings put their foot on the accelerator Friday night and never let off, closing out pre-league football with a 66-18 win over Creswell. After the Bulldogs scored first, Siuslaw answered with four touchdowns and led 30-12 after one quarter, then stretched the advantage to 52-12 by halftime. Skip LaCouture scored twice, with Dylan Gray, Jericho Lake and Leighton Weiboldt also finding the end zone. The 4-and-1 Vikings open league play at home against Douglas Friday night at seven.
Woahink Lake Invitational
Siuslaw’s boys cross country team dominated the Woahink Lake Invitational Saturday, placing five runners in the top ten to win the team title. Henry Stone led the Vikings, winning the five-thousand-meter race in 16 minutes point-eight seconds, with Bentley Nelson finishing second. The Lady Vikings placed third overall, led by freshman Hosanna Stone, who finished tenth in 21 minutes, 29-point-four seconds.
Mapleton Cross Country
Mapleton’s freshman harrier Rowan Wilson ran a personal record 23:15.7 in Saturday’s Willamette Golden Hour 5k.
Ducks and Beavers Post Wins
The Ducks and the Beavers took care of business on Saturday. The Ducks handed the USC Trojan a big 10 loss after losing QB Dante Moore early in the first quarter. Moore suffered a concussion after sliding defenselessly and was targeted by the Trojans Desman Stephens who was ejected from the game. Backup Dylan Raiola finished the game with a stellar performance leading the Ducks to a 41-27 victory.
Oregon State snapped a 10-game road losing streak Saturday with a 33-7 win over UTEP. Braden Atkinson threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns, while A-J Newberry rushed for a career-high 111 yards. The Beaver defense added seven sacks and two interceptions while holding UTEP to just 31 first-half yards. Oregon State improves to 2-and-2 and opens Pac-12 play Saturday at Colorado State.
