Land Use Proposal Discussion Continues

The Florence City Council will revisit a controversial land use proposal Monday night as it considers the second reading of Ordinance 7, Series 2026. The measure would redesignate and rezone about 5.85 acres near Rhododendron Drive from Business Industrial Park to Medium Density Residential. The public hearing was closed September 14th, but the applicant has asked the council to reopen the record to address concerns raised during deliberations. Staff recommends denying that request and moving forward with adoption of the ordinance

City Council Agenda

The Florence City Council meets Monday evening at 5:30 at City Hall. The agenda includes proclamations recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Arts and Humanities Month, Spiritual Care Week, and the CoastBusters Walk for Breast Cancer. Councilors will consider a proposed comprehensive plan and zoning change near Rhododendron Drive and review a grant application that could help fund an update to the Florence Municipal Airport Master Plan. The meeting also includes department director updates, including the annual economic development report.

Candidate Forum

The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce will convene a community candidate forum next Wednesday at the Florence Events Center. Coast Radio is presenting the event, which will feature candidates for Florence Mayor, Florence City Council, and Oregon State Representative. The forum begins at 4 p.m. and will include questions focused on issues important to Florence residents and the surrounding region. Organizers say the nonpartisan event is designed to give voters an opportunity to hear directly from candidates before Election Day. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
