LRAPA Rule Changes for Asbestos

The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency is seeking public input on proposed changes to asbestos regulations in Lane County. The updates would clarify requirements for asbestos removal during renovations and demolitions, while bringing local rules in line with state and federal standards. A corrected notice has been issued, with a public hearing scheduled for November 12th at 12:15 in Springfield. Written comments will be accepted through November 19th at 5 p.m. More information is available at LRAPA’s website.

Emergency Preparedness

Community organizations across western Lane County are being invited to help strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response. The West Lane Community Organizations Active in Disaster, or COAD, will meet Wednesday, October 14th, at the Siuslaw Public Library in Florence. The meeting will focus on volunteer coordination, emergency training, community evacuation planning, and identifying additional partners. Nonprofits, government agencies, neighborhood groups, and volunteers are encouraged to attend. Remote participation is also available, and advance registration is not required.

Wildfire Regulations

With wildfire regulations varying by location, the Oregon Department of Forestry is reminding residents to check restrictions before burning yard debris or building a campfire. Rules can differ between city, county, state, and federal jurisdictions, and burning may be prohibited even when conditions appear safe. Residents can check current debris-burning restrictions at BeforeYouBurn.net. Campers should verify regulations for their specific destination. Here in western Lane County, additional information on local fire restrictions is available through Western Lane Fire and EMS Authority at WLFEA.org.
