Property Transfer Mulled
The Florence City Council will consider accepting nearly six acres of property associated with the Siuslaw Estuary Trail during Monday’s meeting. The property was originally part of the former Siuslaw Middle School site, purchased by the Florence Urban Renewal Agency in 2018 and later divided for redevelopment. The agency contributed 55-thousand dollars toward the trail project, which completed its first phase in 2025. The proposed transfer would carry no purchase price, but would require the city to maintain the trail for at least twenty years and share closing costs. Future trail expansion is also being considered.
Annexations
Several annexation requests will be considered when the Florence City Council meets Monday evening. Three separate properties, two along Rhododendron Drive and one on Lookout Street, are proposed for annexation and residential zoning assignments. Councilors will also consider changes to municipal court scheduling procedures and hear the annual report from the Senior and Activities Center. The meeting begins at 5:30 at Florence City Hall, with public participation available in person or virtually.
Weatherization Day
Today is Weatherization Day in Oregon, and state officials are highlighting a program that helps low-income homeowners and renters reduce energy costs and improve living conditions. Oregon’s Weatherization Assistance Program provides qualifying households with improvements including insulation, air sealing, and heating system repairs. The program assisted more than eleven hundred homes statewide in 2025, with estimated annual energy savings of 372 dollars per household. Coastal residents may also qualify for assistance, particularly those living in older, less energy-efficient homes. Eligibility information is available through Oregon Housing and Community Services.
