Coast Radio History

Coast Broadcasting was established in 1988 and is the only locally owned fully-independent traditional media serving the central Oregon coast. KCST 106.9 FM and KCFM 1250 AM, 104.1 FM & 103.1 FM in Mapleton are Florence’s only local commercial radio stations. The two distinctly different formats are both served by Coast Radio’s News & Sports departments featuring the area’s only daily local news Monday through Friday.  In addition, both stations carry ABC news at the top of each hour.  Our full-time News Director prepares local news six times a day on both stations and subscribes to the Associate Press providing the area with current regional news.  Coast Radio News also produces local public affairs programming and commentary as well as coverage of breaking news events.

Coast Radio Sports produces live coverage of local high school sports and airs broadcasts the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers covering all the area’s most popular teams.  Local on-air personalities provide a constant stream of current information including ever changing weather forecasts, traffic alerts, public service announcements and general information of local concern.

Coast Broadcasting and its staff are active in the community volunteering, sponsoring and covering local promotions and events.  The company and its staff have received multiple community awards including being named Business of the Year twice during its more than 20 years of service in Florence.  General Manager Jon Thompson received the state’s most coveted broadcast award in 2017 when the Oregon Association of Broadcasters named him Broadcaster of the Year. The award reflects the efforts of both management and staff to actively serve Florence and the surrounding area as a true community radio station.
