It was a dominant weekend for the Siuslaw Vikings in the first full weekend of prep activity.
Prep Football… The Siuslaw Vikings took advantage of short fields and scored twice in the first five minutes Friday night against the Junction City Tigers, eventually coming out on top 39-7 to open the season. Sonny Tupua rushed for a pair of touchdowns, as did John Johnson. Johnson completed 9-of-14 passes for 141 yards and threw for an additional score… a 45-yard screen pass to Neil Larson.
In Falls City, the Mountaineers pitched a shutout, 46-nothing over the Mapleton Sailors. In Reedsport, the Braves came out on top, 36-12, over the Neah-Kah-Nie Pirates.
On the Volleyball Court… the Siuslaw Vikings sailed through pool play undefeated at the Reedsport Dune Classic Tournament, as did the Reedsport Braves. Both teams won their Semi-Finals, setting up a final match between the two teams for the championship. The Braves too game one 25-23, but the Vikings took game two, 25-22… then in the third and final game it was the Siuslaw Vikings on top, 19-17 for the tournament title.
And finally, to Cross Country… The Siuslaw Viking Boys swept the top six places at Saturday’s Road, Lake And Dune race in Winchester Bay, the Viking Girls took the top three. Mitchell Butler won the boys category with a time of 17:30, followed in order by Matthew Campbell, Hayden Schaffner, Mack Marbas, Seth Campbell and Brian Schofield.
