The Lane County Sheriff’s office will receive three-quarters of a million dollars to fund a “second chance” to convicts being released from the prison system. The money will fund treatment programs and half-way houses aimed at providing a support system for returning offenders to ease their transition back into a productive life.
Captain Greg Fox with Lane County Corrections says his agency will only use a small portion of the money… about $70-thousand… to fund one position. The rest of the money will be distributed to community based non-profit groups that provide housing, job assistance, and counseling services.
