PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The National Weather Service forecasts
more snow showers today across northern Oregon, but forecasters are
really keeping their eye on the chance of heavy snow tomorrow night
and Wednesday. Heavy snow is expected in the Cascades and Columbia
River Gorge with the chance of significant accumulations in the
lowlands, including the Portland-Vancouver area. The east slopes of
the Oregon Cascades may see 6-10 inches by Wednesday afternoon. The
Grande Ronde Valley could receive 5-8 inches of snow.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man was wounded in an overnight shooting
in northeast Portland. Police say officers were responding to a
report of shots fired about 1 a.m. when they learned the victim was
taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.Officers are looking for a
suspect, described as a man in his early 30s who may have been in a
white car.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Text messages found on a 14-year-old girl’s
cell phone led police to arrest a 25-year-old Eugene man on rape
charges. The Register-Guard reports that parents discovered the
texts and then promptly called police, who launched an
investigation and arrested Jeremy Gene Kautz. He’s facing 21 counts
each of third-degree rape, third-degree sexual abuse and
contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor. Police say their
investigation led them to a second 14-year-old girl.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The upcoming year is looking good for
Oregon’s farmers, but volatility remains across the board. The
Oregonian reports that Oregon agriculture – the state’s
second-leading economic sector, after high-tech – appears to have
weathered the recession and is picking its way back. Still, some
negative factors remain — high hay prices increase costs for
cattle ranchers, an irrigation fight may break out in the
Legislature and farmers worry about government action on issues
ranging from pesticides and wolves to food safety and water
quality.
