Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – A 54-year-old Oregon man who pleaded
guilty to manslaughter in the 2010 shooting death of a neighbor has
been sentenced to 15 years in prison. Anthony McOwen will get
credit for the time he’s spent in the Douglas County Jail since his
arrest on the day 62-year-old Ben Walker was killed in a property
dispute.

ST. HELENS, Ore. (AP) – A judge has ordered that the man accused
of killing Rainier police chief Ralph Painter be returned to the
Oregon State Hospital for additional mental health evaluation. The
Oregonian reports that decision comes amid questions about whether
Butts can assist in his own defense and treatment of a wound Butts
suffered when he stabbed himself in the forehead with a pencil in
January.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) -A Marion County prosecutor says a 31-year-old
woman was under the influence of three drugs when her SUV struck
and killed two teens and badly injured another in September 2010.
Sophia Downing’s trial got under way yesterday. Her lawyer says the
drugs found in Downing’s system were prescribed to her and did not
contribute to the fatal crash.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Washington state wildlife spokesman says
two salmon-eating California sea lions have been captured this week
at Bonneville Dam and killed by lethal injection. The deaths are
the first this year after a federal judge ruled last month the
program could proceed. The Humane Society of the United States has
filed suit in an effort to permanently end the sea lion killings.
