PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police want to put up surveillance cameras to help officers watch for illegal drug deals in the Old Town-Chinatown district. The Oregonian reports Police Chief Mike Reese will make a request to the city council tomorrow to allow police to enter agreements with private property owners to install cameras on their buildings.

SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – A small plane crashed on the east side of the Cascade Range near Sisters yesterday, killing two people. The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says 68-year-old Harry Mortimer League of Chicago and 52-year-old Patrick Franzen of Bend were the only people aboard the plane when it crashed yesterday.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon election officials say a group that wants to legalize marijuana violated state law by paying petition circulators based on the number of signatures they collect. The secretary of state’s office says it has fined the organizers $65,000. One of the leaders of the petition drive, Robert Wolfe, says the allegation is “without merit” and says they are still collecting signatures.

ESTACADA, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says an Estacada teen died in a tree-climbing accident. Detectives and the state medical examiner’s office determined that 15-year-old Brennen Etheridge fell 30 feet or more. The Oregonian reports his mother and brother found the body Sunday night in a cedar tree on the family’s property.
