A poor start that resulted in four runs for North Bend in the first inning last night proved too much for the Siuslaw Vikings to overcome as they fell to the Bulldogs 6-3 in Far West League Baseball action.  The loss at home put a third straight solo league title out of reach for Siuslaw.

But, because South Umpqua fell to Douglas 10-3, the Vikings are still within grasp of a share.  In any event, they will finish no worse than second place.

In the third Far West game last night, Brookings-Harbor got by Sutherlin 7-5.  The Vikings will take on the Bulldogs in Sutherlin Friday afternoon for the final two games of the regular season.  South Umpqua will be at Brookings and North Bend will face Douglas.

Siuslaw posted a six-run shut out win over last place North Bend Tuesday.  Brionna Knapp struck out seven, plus went two-for-three at the plate with one RBI.  Kati Thrall was two-for-four with a pair of RBI.

In other action, South Umpqua edged Douglas 8-7, preventing the Trojans from clinching an outright league title.  Brookings-Harbor beat Sutherlin 6-4.  Douglas is at the top with a 10-3 record followed by Sutherlin at 8-5 then Siuslaw, South Umpqua and Brookings knotted in third place with 7-6 records.

That will likely all be cleared up Friday afternoon… Siuslaw will be at home against Sutherlin; Brookings will be at South Umpqua as those four teams will be competing for three playoff spots.
