SEATTLE (AP) – Albert Pujols (POO’-hohlz) had three hits, including the 450th home run of his career Dan Haren struck out a career-high 14 in tossing his sixth career complete-game shutout, and the Los Angeles Angels won their third straight with a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners last night. The Angels and Mariners met for the first of 19 games this season and Pujols, a newcomer to the AL West rivalry, made his presence known immediately. It was just his third three-hit game this season.

SEATTLE (AP) – Catcher Miguel Olivo has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Seattle Mariners after missing close to a month with a strained right groin muscle. Olivo was activated yesterday and was in the starting lineup for the series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. To clear a roster spot, reserve outfielder Casper Wells was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. Olivo appeared in three rehab games with Tacoma. He was hurt on April 30 against Tampa Bay fielding a ball in the ninth inning.

UNDATED (AP) – Oregon baseball coach George Horton has his players in the weight room at 6:20 every morning. He knows it’s a brutal hour for college students and usually there are stragglers. But not this season. Only one player has ever reported late. Horton says that dedication is mirrored in the team’s play. Oregon, which revived its baseball program just four seasons ago, leads the Pac-12 with a school-record 42 wins. Riding a nine-game winning streak, the Ducks could clinch the conference title when they visit rival Oregon State this weekend for a three-game series to wrap up the regular season.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Kellen Winslow is ready to prove he still has something left for the Seattle Seahawks. Winslow was acquired in a trade with Tampa Bay for a conditional pick in next year’s draft on Monday evening. He was not in the Buccaneers’ plans under new coach Greg Schiano and was put on the trading block. Winslow says he’s excited to join his new team and eager to make an impact. Seattle hopes Winslow can help boost the production at tight end that was woefully uninspiring a season ago.
