PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – An officer in a drug raid in Pendleton wounded an occupant of a house early yesterday. The Oregon State Police said officers from a Pendleton SWAT team and a regional drug squad had a search warrant for the house. During the search, a statement says, an occupant with a weapon confronted an officer, who fired. The wounded man was reported hospitalized in stable condition, and an investigation is under way.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Police searched Grants Pass for a gunman after a shooting left a man wounded. The Grants Pass Daily Courier reported that the shooting happened yesterday morning in a residential neighborhood a few blocks from downtown. The victim, identified by police as Eric Dexter, was taken to the local hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition. Police said they had no immediate information on what the shooting was about.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. attorney’s office says a former Army reservist has pleaded guilty to accepting more than $400,000 in unearned pay and benefits. Federal prosecutors say 51-year-old John Amos of Newport entered his plea yesterday in federal court. As part of his plea agreement, he will pay full restitution. He could face a maximum three years in prison and $250,000 fine at sentencing set for Feb. 15. Prosecutors say he continued to cash a monthly paycheck after his activation ended.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – About 800 people turned out in Portland for an Oregon Department of Environmental Quality hearing on Ambre Energy’s proposal to export coal through Oregon to Asia. The Oregonian reported that coal export opponents appeared to outnumber supporters at the meeting last night. This is the last of three public hearings before the department considers whether to issue draft permits by the end of February. The company says it will take steps to reduce coal dust and other pollution, but the proposal is opposed by The Sierra Club, Columbia Riverkeeper and other environmental groups.
