Taking a look at Coast Radio Sports…
Boys basketball… Newport’s Nolan Gates hit a long three-pointer with two seconds remaining last night to lift the Cubs to a 58 – 55 non-league victory over the Siuslaw Vikings in Newport.
The three-ball was an ironic twist of fate for the Vikings who accounted for more than half of their points from outside the arc… while Gates’ buzzer-beater was only the second of the night for the home team. Jacob Thompson led scoring for the Vikings with 19.
In Mountain West League play the McKenzie Eagles remain undefeated in league play after a 72 – 50 victory in Blue River over the Mapleton Sailors. Brody Ford led the Sailors with 19 points and 20 rebounds.
For the girls, the Eagles came out on top as well, holding off the Lady Sailors 39 – 23. In Florence, Alex Dodson had 14 points to lead the Vikings, but they fell to the Newport Cubs 38 – 31.
On the schedule tonight… Oregon State will be in Portland against the PSU Vikings for non-conference basketball at 7:30… airtime on KCFM is set for seven.
