UNDATED (AP) – Dock workers are on the job at several Pacific Northwest grain terminals, working under contract terms they rejected last weekend. The owners implemented the terms after declaring talks at an impasse. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union has yet to announce its next move. Dock workers belonging to another union on the East Coast are threatening a strike at 15 ports starting on Sunday.
CHILOQUIN, Ore. (AP) – Employees using a stun gun subdued a woman who attempted to rob a Chiloquin grocery store and took a boy hostage yesterday. Chiloquin Family Food Center owner Taylor Day tells the Herald and News the woman entered the store with what turned out to be a pellet gun. Employees held the woman until Oregon State Police arrives.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police are looking for a woman who stabbed a stranger without provocation on a Portland street last night. Police say the victim, a woman in her 20s, was taken to a hospital. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Police canvassed the neighborhood after the attack, but did not find the suspect.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Dungeness crab season in Oregon and southern Washington starts Monday at 12:01 a.m. after a month-long delay caused by insufficient meat content. The season typically opens Dec. 1, but can be pushed back to ensure better quality. An Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission spokesman says it was disappointing not to have fresh crab for the holiday, but waiting until they were nice and full was the right thing to do.
