PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a woman was struck and killed in a Portland crosswalk last night after one car stopped to let her cross. But another car in another lane failed to stop, and the 28-year-old pedestrian was hit. Police say the driver stopped and cooperated with investigators. She did not appear to be impaired.
CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – A Clackamas County sheriff’s spokesman says a 17-year-old boy has turned himself in, telling officers he held a knife to a female customer’s throat during a bank robbery. Deputies say the teen surrendered yesterday and gave a full voluntary statement about the Monday afternoon robbery at a Key Bank branch in Clackamas. The Oregonian reports that detectives did not recover any of the money.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Prosecutors say a convicted bank robber filed lawsuits from federal prison falsely claiming he was abused as a child by priests in four Catholic dioceses. A grand jury in Oregon has indicted 49-year-old Shamont Sapp on charges of mail fraud. The indictment alleges that Sapp filed claims in courts over a five-year period alleging abuse by specific priests in several dioceses, including the Archdiocese of Portland. It says the priests Sapp named didn’t abuse him, and his claims were dismissed or denied.
SEATTLE (AP) – Library programs in Washington and Oregon will receive $1.35 million in grants this year from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. The Seattle Times reports that those benefiting the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation for a teen library program. Paul G. Allen and his sister, Jody Allen, started the foundation.
