WASHINGTON (AP) – Oregon ranked fifth among the states with a 14.3 percent gain in home prices for the month of March. A survey by real estate data provider Core Logic says its survey shows home prices nationwide rose 10.5 percent in March compared with a year ago. Nevada and California had the biggest increases.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Fire and Rescue says a 2-year-old was injured falling out a second-story window last night at a home in southeast Portland. Lt. Rich Chatman tells KATU the child was conscious and crying when it was taken to a hospital.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Forest Service is gearing up for a tough wildfire season by adding seven planes to its firefighting fleet. The $158 million contract includes a converted DC-10. All of the new planes are faster and can drop larger payloads of fire retardant.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The mother of “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening (GRAIN’-ing) has died. The TV show’s executive consultant says Margaret Groening died April 22 in Portland. The consultant said she did not know the cause of death, but that Mrs. Groening was in her 90s.
